Integrated Pest Management at Parks, Fields

The Streamwood Park District reminds our residents that our Parks crews control pest/disease issues in the landscape, athletic fields, and playgrounds throughout our properties with an Integrated Pest Management approach. This includes utilizing a variety of strategies which may include some of the following:

  • Cultural: mulching, sourcing healthy plants, turf, seed, etc.
  • Mechanical: mowing, removal, pruning, etc.
  • Biological: using beneficial plants or insects to target undesirable insects.
  • Preventative: scouting for pests and diseases
  • Chemical: used as a last resort. This includes scouting, and timing the application to be most effective, and on-site flags, as a reminder.

This thoughtful approach helps our staff maintain attractive, safe, and enjoyable parks, while recognizing that nature isnโ€™t something we canโ€”or shouldโ€”control completely. A small amount of weeds or insects is part of a healthy, living environment. Please feel free to call our Parks Hotline at (630) 483-3134 with questions.
